Why Charlie Kirk’s Assassination Feels So Heavy

The assassination of conservative figure Charlie Kirk on September 10th was a horrific event witnessed collectively, which was described as not only evil but demonic. Many experienced deep grief, confusion, and fear because the incident felt heavier and more profound than a typical news headline. This profound reaction stemmed from the spiritual significance of the event: the community witnessed the martyring of a brother in Christ.

The Holy Spirit in believers grieved because the Holy Spirit recognized the Holy Spirit in Charlie Kirk.

A Call for Biblical Foundation and Discerning Hearts

In response to this tragic event, the hour calls for discerning minds and discerning hearts. It is crucial to maintain a levelheaded biblical foundation and remain attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Believers are encouraged to take their fear, anger, confusion, and questions to the cross, as their ultimate trust must be in Jesus Christ.

Preachers and believers must be careful not to respond with ego or raw emotion. There is a caution against those who might pressure believers into silence when the Holy Spirit instructs them to speak, and equally, against those who pressure believers to speak on a specific timeline or use demanded language. Using divisive language, such as telling people to switch churches if a pastor doesn’t address the event in a certain way at a certain time, is deemed as coming from ego and emotion, not from God’s Holy Spirit.

As the body of Christ, the incident should be acknowledged, but this must be done in a Christ-centered way.

Prayer for Comfort and Spiritual Awakening

A central response to the event is prayer for the family, the Church, and the nation. Specific prayers were offered for:

  • Erica and their two children: Asking the Holy Spirit to comfort Erica, be her refuge and strength, and give her grace and wisdom for the time ahead. Prayer was also offered for a covering upon their children, that the Lord would guide and speak to them, and protect them from the things of this world that seek to pull them away from God.
  • The Church: A plea was made for the Church to be unified in this hour and to be moved only by the Holy Spirit, avoiding responses driven by emotion or fear.
  • A Spiritual Awakening: The prayer requests that God would take what was meant for evil and turn it around to something good. The hope is that this tragedy would birth a great spiritual awakening in the nation, such as has never been known.

The declaration was made that the blood of the martyrs is the seeds of the church.

The Role of Boldness and Divine Power

Believers are urged to guard their hearts and minds, be attentive, and be prayerful, but above all, to be bold. The sources emphasize that God has not given believers a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and love and a sound mind.

In this heavy time, believers are called to look to Jesus, their refuge, strength, and high tower. Prayer was offered that the Lord would lift hearts to heavenly places and fill people with fresh power from on high, including the love of the Spirit and clarity of mind. The church declared that every plan of hell is canceled and rebuked spirits that would try to cause division in the church and the nation. The desire is for the Lord to give His people faith for the hour ahead.
