The Prayer Solution – WORD POWER

Dr. Bill Winston invites believers to step into a new flow of divine empowerment through the application of faith-filled words. The teaching, “Word Power,” explores how the words spoken by a believer carry the power and ability to bring themselves to pass. Words are identified as some of the most powerful things in the universe.

Key Principles of Word Power

Jesus Christ profoundly taught the principle of word power, instructing His disciples to achieve the same results He did. Every manifestation or miracle Jesus performed was predicated on what He spoke.

1. Words Manifest Exactly as Spoken: The sources emphasize the necessity of speaking precise, faith-filled words, as they dictate the outcome. Jesus declared He would rise again on the third day; had He said the fourth day, it would have been the fourth day.

  • Believers must not accept substitutes for what they have spoken in faith. If an individual believes for a Bentley but receives a Rolls, they should “send it back”. The direction is clear: do not accept anything but what you said.
  • When a prayer is not answered exactly as prayed, the believer should “slam the door,” declaring, “That ain’t mine”.

2. Faith and Immediate Manifestation: Faith-filled words work every time because they are power words. When Jesus spoke to the storm, it “ceased immediately” due to word power. Jesus taught that believers can do the same things He did. For instance, Jesus spoke to a fig tree, and it withered away within 24 hours. Faith goes to work when the word is spoken with faith.

Applying Word Power for Deliverance

While deliverance ministry often focuses on casting out demons, the teaching suggests that many demons “won’t come out” except by the Word. Believers can run out devils with the Word. The strategy is to receive something (freedom) rather than attempting only to get rid of something (the addiction or devil).

This process involves continuously confessing freedom, even while still engaging in the unwanted activity:

  • For a person struggling with alcohol, they should declare, “Thank God I’m free from alcohol,” even while drinking it.
  • For cigarette addiction, the declaration is, “Thank God I’m free from cigarettes,” repeated even while lighting up or buying another carton.

A testimony shared within the sources illustrates this power: A man struggling with drinking took the scripture (concerning every tree not planted by the Father being rooted up) and continually confessed freedom from alcohol while drinking. Eventually, he was prompted to return the bottle he was purchasing, and that was the last time he ever drank.

The Power of Praying in the Past Tense

The scriptures indicate that when believers pray, they should believe they receive them. Therefore, prayer should often be treated as an already completed action.

Jesus told Simon, “I have prayed for you that your faith won’t fail,” using the past tense (“prayed” with “ed”). The confidence gained from this principle changes believers. For example, the Peter who denied Jesus later became incredibly bold because Jesus had already prayed for him. If a person believes in the word, they can pray for their children and “forget it,” knowing the devil cannot touch them.

Overcoming Pressure and Temptation

A core teaching is that humans are fearfully and wonderfully made and are delicate. Believers are not designed for one ounce of pressure. Satan’s primary tactic is to apply pressure—which can manifest as high blood pressure or improperly digesting food leading to diabetes—to force believers to give in to his demands.

Satan operates by:

  • Whispering demands into the minds or ears of people, causing them to repeat exactly what the enemy said instead of what God said. This is demonstrated by Job’s wife, who echoed the devil’s earlier demands to God.
  • Applying relentless, repeated pressure to “convert your will”. This pressure is seen in tempting situations, such as Potiphar’s wife repeatedly soliciting Joseph to “lie with me”.
  • Attempting to make resistance seem impossible. However, the Bible teaches that if resistance were impossible, the command to resist would not exist.

The key defense is resistance and escape:

  • Believers must resist the devil, and he will flee.
  • When facing temptation, follow the example of Joseph, who ran. Running away is the necessary action when dealing with high pressure from the enemy.

Biblical examples of successful resistance to severe pressure include Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (the three Hebrews), who refused to bow despite the fire being heated seven times hotter than normal. Through the Word of faith, they did not bow and did not burn.
