You’re Not Overwhelmed. You’re Distracted. | Steven Furtick

Don’t Let Distractions Steal Your Purpose
The enemy’s strategy is simple: weaken your calling by getting you to focus on things you can’t control. That’s what happened to Martha. Out of all the things she could manage—like the mortgage, or the menu—she couldn’t manage Mary.

There are some things in life that are simply out of our control. The weather is one. Other people is another. Martha became distracted—not by meaningless things, but by her responsibilities. She wasn’t wasting time playing games on her phone. She was cooking, cleaning, and preparing. She was multitasking.

Now here’s the moment I want you to remember. When someone asks you later, “Did you go to church on Sunday?” and “What was the message about?”—this is the part you’ll be able to share. I hope you’ll even preach it back to your spouse during the week.

Let me give you something practical—something you can use the next time someone in your life starts acting a little too much like Martha… or when you start to feel that way yourself.

I told Holly, “Wear something to church today that you wouldn’t mind being seen in on camera.” Because she’s helping me illustrate this. She’s stepping into the role of Martha—not because she is Martha, but to help paint this picture. In truth, I admire her ability to balance so much with grace.
