Thomas Jefferson said, and now we can view it as a warning, almost prophetic. Jefferson said that when the populace or the uh electorate is knowledgeable, they’re hard to control. Meaning, if you know what’s on the ballot and who’s running, then you’ll know how to vote. And Jefferson warned that if we don’t get involved, then there’s a tyrannical movement toward the leadership of a few where God has given you and I as Americans a constitutional republic.
That’s why our motto is we the people. Yes, in God we trust. Beyond that or after that is we the people because we have a constitutional government. You will never hear I’m sorry. I’m going to be accurate. If you don’t like it, go prove me wrong. But you’ll never hear a Democrat ever mention a constitutional republic. They cannot say it.
I don’t think they’re allowed to say it. They certainly don’t believe it. We do not live in a democracy. The United States has never been a democracy. We live in a constitutional republic which is far, far different, unique in all the world. So, first verse, I’m going to give you guys a couple of verses to set the tone for this evening.
Jeremiah 29:7 says, “And seek the peace of the city, state, nation, where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the Lord for it, for in its peace you will have peace.” Next verse, Proverbs 29:2, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice. But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.” That’s a definition of California.
Next verse. Isaiah 10 verse one. Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees who write misfortune which they have prescribed to rob the needy of justice and to take what is right from the poor of my people that widows may be their prey and that they may rob the fatherless. That is very descriptive of this state’s condition.
Final verse 2 Corinthians chapter 10:6. Why should the Christian be involved in electing their leaders? 2 Corinthians 10:6 says, “And being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.” In other words, as believers, we are to take our voting rights and responsibilities as stewardship.
