What’s Next, Papa?
This article summarizes the biblical truths regarding the profound benefits of the Holy Spirit, focusing on how pursuing a relationship with Him unlocks a believer’s true identity, vast inheritance, and divine destiny as a full legal heir of God. This message emphasizes that the Holy Spirit is actively working in this era to empower the “heirs to rise” and rule in Christ’s true eklesia.
The Unsurpassed Assistance of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is an equal member of the Godhead and the wisest, most powerful being on Earth. Jesus called the Holy Spirit “His other self” and presented the baptism of the Holy Spirit not as an option, but as a vital command for believers.
The Holy Spirit’s role is to be our paraclete, meaning “one that comes alongside to aid you, to support you, to help you, to mentor you”. He is the executive of God’s will, administering magnificent promises and amazing assistance to those who are born again.
Key Characteristics and Functions:
- Omniscience, Omnipresence, Omnipotence: He is all-knowing, everywhere at once (transcending presence), and all-powerful.
- Mentor and Guide: He is our teacher and guide, leading us along if we choose to follow Him.
- Paraclete: He supports and comforts us, like Jesus did for three years.
- Spirit of Truth: He is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive.
- Intercessor: He pleads before God for our destiny in perfect harmony with God’s plan and will.
Your Identity as a Full Legal Heir of God
The central revelation of the Holy Spirit’s ministry is making real to us the truth of our full legal adoption into God’s family.
The Essence of Adoption (Huiothesia)
The Greek word for adoption, huiothesia, signifies a deeply meaningful, love-based decision made by God’s heart:
- Solely God’s Choice: No one compelled God to do this; it was solely His choice, decision, and will.
- Constrained by Love: God was constrained in His heart by His love for us to adopt us. The heart decided for Him.
- From Unwanted to Chosen: It means the “unwanted that becomes wanted because of love constraint”. This demonstrates that we have found a place in God’s heart.
- Full Legal Entitlement: Adoption means legally entitled to full family shares.
The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Adoption and the Spirit of Assurance, testifying to our spirit that we are God’s children. He whispers into our innermost being: “You are God’s beloved son; you’re God’s beloved daughter”.
Joint Heirs with Christ
The doctrine of adoption means that we are heirs of God and fellow heirs (joint heirs) with Christ, sharing His inheritance.
- Shared Inheritance: The term “joint heir” (sug-kleronomos) means to be allotted the same inheritance. All that Christ inherits will belong to us as well.
- Access to All Resources: We have access to all of God’s properties, possessions, and resources, led by the Holy Spirit. This is a magnificent truth that few have allowed themselves to truly think about.
- No Condemnation: Because of Christ’s sacrifice, the “case is closed.” The chain of fear and the accusations of the law were broken, and there is now no condemning voice against those joined to Christ.
Destiny and Supernatural Living
The Holy Spirit is our mentor, teaching us how to function as true heirs and guiding us toward the supernatural life we are meant to live.
Finding and Fulfilling Purpose
Everyone born has a God-given destiny, purpose, and potential that God established before they were born. The Holy Spirit assists in connecting us to this potential and even reveals future things.
- Overcoming Past Limitations: Understanding this inheritance is life-changing, especially when dealing with complicated past relationships or abuse, as it opens up destiny and corrects identity.
- Moving Beyond “Do-It-Yourself” Life: The “spirit of life in Christ” frees us from the “brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death.” We no longer owe the old do-it-yourself life anything, but are to embrace what the Holy Spirit is doing.
- The Beckoning: Holy Spirit beckons the born-again ones to something new. He knows what we are “pregnant with”—divine destiny, purpose, and potential.
