Todd White – Interview – What If No One Gets Healed?
Overcoming Fear in Prayer: Trusting God’s Power
People often say, “What if I pray for someone and God doesn’t heal them?” I hear this concern all the time. But I always share my testimony—when I first witnessed someone being healed through prayer, I made a decision: I would pray for everyone. For three and a half months, I prayed for an average of ten people daily, yet I saw no visible healings.
Many hesitate to pray for others because they fear looking foolish if nothing happens. But dignity is not a fruit of the Spirit. Jesus Himself said we must be willing to look foolish because God uses what seems foolish to confound the wise. Some people worry that if they pray and no healing occurs, they will misrepresent God. But the truth is, when you approach someone to pray, they often aren’t expecting anything in the first place—so you’re already stepping outside the ordinary.
When I pray for someone, their first reaction is often surprise: “Why?” My response is simple: “Because Jesus heals.” Sometimes, I pray, and nothing seems to happen at first. I ask, “Do you feel any change?” If they say no, I pray again immediately. Many times, they start sensing warmth or a shift in their body. I keep praying, believing in God’s power to heal.
If doubts arise—“What if I pray, and nothing happens?”—I flip the question: “What if you pray, and they do get healed?” Imagine the impact. When healings happen, people are overwhelmed with awe and joy. I’ve met believers too afraid to pray for anyone, trembling at the thought. Some are church leaders who find this completely outside their comfort zone. But when they witness a healing firsthand, their perspective changes entirely.
I remember a time at a restaurant buffet. I told our waitress, “Jesus loves you,” but she slammed down a cup and walked away, clearly upset. The church leaders with me were skeptical, asking, “What will you do now?” I simply went to get my food. Later, I asked for the manager, sensing she had pain in her back and knee. When I mentioned this, she was surprised and confirmed it. She invited me to pray for her in the office.
As I prayed, she broke down in tears, overwhelmed by God’s presence and asking for prayer for her daughter. Meanwhile, the elders outside were waiting, wondering what was happening. When she finally stepped out, still crying, they saw firsthand the power of prayer.
This is why we pray with faith. Healing is in God’s hands, but our role is simply to step out, trust Him, and believe.
