The most powerful object in our solar system will rise tomorrow morning on God’s command. And it’s been preaching to you and to me every single day. Sunrises are not random. It’s not just physics. It’s not just the solar system on autopilot. And when you understand why the sun rises every morning, you will never see it the same way again.
It’ll actually change how you wake up. Hey, if you like these morning devotionals, don’t forget to subscribe to the Kirk Cameron Show channel. Alliance Defending Freedom is awesome. I’m going to tell you more about them in just a minute. In the meantime, check them out at joinadf.com/kirk. I watched the sun rise this morning over the horizon together with my wife and it was just foggy across the horse pastures here in Tennessee. It was absolutely beautiful.
And the thought that the sun does not just rise on autopilot but actually rises at the command of God blows me away. Now I know that the science explains to us that the sun is not actually rising. It’s the earth that is rotating as the earth rotates and orbits around the sun. But actually the sun does move and it actually does move across the Milky Way galaxy.
Science can explain at least in part the mechanism of what we see and the mechanism of what produces the light. But it’s scripture alone that can explain the meaning. Think about this. When you look up at the night sky and you see those tiny pin pricks of light, those are stars. Some of them much bigger than our sun.
And they’re so small because they’re that far away, light years away. And our sun is actually very, very close. It’s so close we can’t actually stare at it without going blind. But it’s still 93 million miles away. If it were any closer, we would actually burn up. If it was even slightly further away, we would freeze.
The sun is 865,000 miles wide and over 1 million Earths could fit inside of it. It releases more energy every second than all of humanity has ever used. Essentially, it is a controlled nuclear explosion in the sky. And it has been burning and continues to burn steadily since the beginning of time. And it gets better.
It never misses a day. There has never been a day where the sun slept through the alarm and didn’t come up at dawn. gravity of the sun holds the entire solar system together. And the sun’s light travels at 186,000 miles per second and it still takes 8 minutes for that light to reach the earth. That’s the science.
