tonight we stand at what i call a historical convergence we are a generation that is trapped in a cubicle of tidal events that have overwhelmed the best among us there is no doubt that we are students of history but even more we are making history ourselves as a generation we are witnesses and participants of spiritual economic social political and diplomatic transition a few months ago we were known as the material and the technological generation for september 11 changed us because we can now be described as a
generation of fear we are afraid of the future we are afraid of what will happen to us as a nation as a people as a church the global impact of the terrorist attacks on september 11th that everyone refers to now as a point of demarcation in life and the subsequent economic political social and psychological fallout of these events have affected hundreds of millions of people including me and you we are still trying to assess the impact of those events the level of fear and anxiety and uncertainty among both heads of states
politicians religious leaders and even the simple man on the street his cause for much concern and debate as to how we are to respond to this new equation the trauma among us and among thousands personally affected by this tragic event and those indirectly affected through massive job layoffs and shortened work weeks and the closure of dozens of major companies and airlines has the global village that we live in in a state of economic and cultural shock today our hearts go out once again to our neighbors and our friends in the united states to
the north we just a few hours ago heard about another national tragedy with the crash of the american airlines airbus in new york killing over 200 people instantly i asked god today how can any nation take any more like america has right here in our own nation today’s newspaper’s headline was no better i quote today’s newspaper headlines economic outlook not good says prime minister it seems as if our world has turned on us the destruction by fire of our national straw market and our local tourism headquarters building alone
