Good morning. Hey, grab your coffee, take a breath, and lean in for just a few minutes. Here’s a promise that I want to make to you today. By the end of this devotion, you’re going to understand why reading the Bible is not about becoming more religious, but about becoming more free and why the word of God does something that nothing else in the entire world can do.
Not therapy, not self-help, not discipline, not even willpower. Okay, let’s talk about why there is nothing in the whole world like the Bible. Nothing. No counselor, no book, no program, no 12step system. This book is the one and only book that God wrote. And it’s not just one book. It’s actually an entire library of books. 66 of them to be exact.
And these books were written over hundreds, even thousands of years by dozens of different authors, different backgrounds across multiple continents. And they all tell one seamless, unified story of redemption. It’s all about God rescuing lost, broken people through his son, Jesus Christ. And when you read the scripture, some of it’s really difficult to read. Some of it’s comforting.
Some of it is healing. Other passages are very harsh and they’re very revealing. And scripture describes itself not as polite and passive and always comforting. In fact, the book of Hebrews tells us that the word of God is living and active, that it’s powerful. In Revelation, it’s like a sword coming out of the mouth of God.
It’s even more than that, sharper than any two-edged sword. Hebrews says it’s able to cut and it’s able to heal. And and that’s super important because when you think about swords and knives, blades, some blades are meant to harm and some blades are meant to save lives. The Bible goes straight for the real issue every time that it speaks.
