Recognizing Our True Identity Pt. 2 – Episode 3

Many people feel trapped in a perpetual cycle of performance, striving for peace, approval, and divine favor. However, the path to true purpose, freedom, and fulfillment is unlocked by embracing your True Identity in Jesus Christ. This “Jesus identity” remains constant and unchanging, irrespective of behavior, past mistakes, or religious expectations. The powerful, life-changing message of grace focuses on freeing hearts and renewing minds all over the world.

The core struggle for many believers is that they are out of sync with their true identity, thus missing out on the privileges of their sonship. Instead of striving to become righteous, holy, or complete, believers are called to believe they already are.

1. The Foundation of Identity: Alignment, Not Achievement

Your True Identity is the foundational key to unlocking everything God has called you to do, including your purpose.

Identity is Unchanging and Complete

Your identity with Jesus will always stay the same regardless of what you do. While your behavior may contradict this truth, your identity has already been declared by God. The devil constantly attempts to convince you that your behavior will define your identity. However, God says, “You are righteous, even though your behavior is not righteous”.

Jesus has finished the work of redemption. According to religion, you must work to get righteous, work hard to get holy, and work hard to become complete. This is backward. The truth is:

  • You are righteous because Jesus has finished righteousness.
  • You are holy because Jesus has made you holy. Holiness is a person, not a behavior.
  • You are complete in Jesus now.

If you keep pressing and trying your best to live by the law, you will be judged by that law, which is too perfect for humans to keep. Trying to use self-effort to attain these finished works is futile.

Alignment is the Core of Christianity

Christianity is fundamentally about getting in alignment with what God has already done. Religion has gotten people out of sync, and the goal is to get back in agreement.

  • Agreement: Getting in sync means living in agreement with who you truly are in Christ, not who the world, your past, or religion says you are.
  • Flow: Your thoughts, emotions, and actions should flow out of the truth that you are already made righteous, holy, and complete in Him.
  • Daily Practice: This alignment is an awareness every single day of your life. If you hold on to the identity, your identity is going to change your behavior.
  • Prayer as Alignment: Prayer is an opportunity to sync with what has already been done. You are not trying to get healed; you are healed already. You are not trying to find your purpose; you already have your purpose in you.

Boldness and Assurance

Living from your Jesus identity provides boldness, liberty, confidence, and assurance. This is because “as he is, so are we in this world”. You are no longer striving to become; you now start believing you already are. You live, speak, and release your authority from your Jesus identity.

2. The Redefinition of Humanity and Relationship

The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ redefine who you are and how you perceive every other person.

Universal Participation in Christ’s Death

When Jesus died, every individual simultaneously died. The person in the church and the person at the strip joint both died when Jesus died. God cannot forget about anyone, even those far away, because they are still breathing His breath and echoing His presence.

In God’s logic, one died for all, thus all have died. If all were included in His death, they were equally included in His resurrection.

The New Identity and Perspective

The unveiling of Christ’s love redefines human life; it is now life in Him. Because of this, believers are commanded: “wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh”.

  • No Earthly Labels: The death and resurrection of Christ mean we no longer see people according to the flesh. We no longer see you as a black man, a man, a woman, or Jewish; you have been redefined by His love.
  • No Relevance in Old Reference: Whatever reference we could have of ourselves outside of our association with Christ is no longer relevant.
  • A New Creature: If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new.
  • Ministry of Reconciliation: The difference between those in the church and those outside is that you know this truth, and they don’t. The ministry of reconciliation is to unveil to those who don’t know it yet who they really are. This is soul winning—telling people they can “leap tall buildings in a single bound”.

The Danger of Focusing on Hell

The sources challenge the focus on heaven or hell in outreach, suggesting that believers should instead focus on unveiling the true identity to others. It is shocking to realize that the issue is not primarily heaven or hell, but what Jesus has done for every human being.
