“Rebellion IS Witchcraft!” The Sin the Modern Church Ignores
Brothers and sisters, we live in a time where the aroma of rebellion has seeped into the sanctuary. Not with broomsticks and potions, but with philosophies, idols, and ideologies dressed in robes of tolerance and progress. It is not the witch with a wand that threatens the church. It is the subtle seduction of witchcraft’s spirit, rebellion against God, manipulation of truth, and the exaltation of self.
And what does the Bible say? For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft. 1st Samuel 15:23. Yet the church, once ablaze with discernment, has gone nose blind to the stench. We have become so used to the world’s perfume that we no longer smell the sulfur in the sanctuary. Witchcraft is not always what it seems.
When most people hear the word, they picture witches with cauldrons, dark rituals, or ancient spells. But in scripture, witchcraft often takes a far more subtle and insidious form. In 1 Samuel 15:23, the prophet Samuel declares, “For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, exposing that the heart of witchcraft is not just sorcery. It is defiance.
” Witchcraft at its core is about manipulation, rebellion against God’s authority and the exaltation of human will over divine order. And today that same spirit has found new disguises within our culture and tragically within the church. What we see now is not the obvious practice of magic but the infiltration of ideas and systems that challenge God’s design while claiming spiritual legitimacy.
Take for instance modern feminism. Not in the sense of seeking dignity and value for women, which scripture supports, but in its radical form that aggressively tears down the biblical structure of male headship and female submission in the home and church. This ideology doesn’t appear demonic on the surface.
