Our Enemy The Past

  • Um, most of us probably have more [snorts] negative remembrances about our past than we do um, good things. But, and for a lot of people, your past is never as great as you thought it was or as you remember. I remember um as a boy uh going to camp meeting and we always had this big tabernacle that we went to and the sodest on the floor and it seemed so big and um I went back years years later when I was groaning and looked at it and it’s so small and many many times [clears throat] your your past is not as great as you thought it was and Your
  • past can be the greatest obstacle for what God wants to do with you in the future. Um there’s a in Proverbs, we’re familiar with this. Proverbs chap chapter 29, it says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” And looking at our past is really not vision. Uh it’s it’s just remembering what doesn’t exist anymore.
  • And so being able to to look forward to the future is what is what allows us to accomplish what God wants us to accomplish. And so Paul wrote this in Philippians chapter 3. He said, “One of the things that I want to encourage you to do,” he said, “is you need to forget those things which are behind because if you don’t forget them, they’ll latch on to you and they’ll tie you down into a place that you’re never able to accomplish the things of the Lord.
  • ” And so, um, listen, you you can’t change your past. It’s forever set in stone. And there is nothing profitable about letting the enemy take your mind and drag you back into the garbage dump of the past because all it does it just releases this negativity in you. It releases discouragement and many times it’ll release anger in you.
