Pastor Kent Christmas | Being A Vessel Of The Lord | November 27, 2024
You’re watching KCMI TV. Thank you for joining me today. I want to discuss something that probably all of us wonder about—God’s ways. Let’s look at our key verse from 2 Corinthians 4:7, which says, “But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” I chose this verse because I want to talk about being a vessel for the Lord.
This scripture tells us that we have a treasure, and we know that this treasure is the great pearl of great price—Jesus Christ. Paul described this as a mystery of the ages revealed to us: Christ in us, which is the hope of glory. Paul tells us we have this treasure, but it’s within an earthen vessel. I was meditating on this during a recent prayer, and the word “vessel” here refers to a man of quality or a chosen instrument. As believers, we are the vessels of the Lord, and that means we are instruments chosen by God to fulfill His will.
Let’s look at Jesus Christ in Philippians 2. I’ll be reading from the Passion Translation, as it puts things in a way that’s easy to understand. We know that Jesus is the Son of God, and He came to Earth with a purpose. Before He took on the form of a man, He was the Word from eternity. In Philippians 2, it says, “Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself by taking on the form of a servant.”
