What Does It Mean to Be a Servant?
The word servant means someone who is devoted to another’s will, even at the expense of their own interests. It’s not an easy role, but today, I want to take you on a journey through Scripture to discover the incredible blessings that come with learning how to serve God wholeheartedly.
Matthew 10:24 tells us, “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master.”
In today’s world, ambition is common—even in the church. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be successful or feeling valued. However, if we’re not careful, unchecked ambition can lead us down the wrong path. Some people step on others to move higher, but Jesus teaches a different way.
There’s an old saying: “You don’t have to put out another person’s light for your own to shine.” Jesus reinforces this in Matthew 23:11, saying, “The greatest among you shall be your servant.” Similarly, in Matthew 20:27, He declares, “Whoever wants to be first among you must be your servant.”
