LIFT Daily Prayer: Day 249: Strengthened by His Word
-
And today is Psalm 119 verse 28. Psalm 119 verse 28. And it is a a psalm. By the way, I I should let you know this if I if you have forgotten. I’ve said it in the past. Um I asked the Lord in advance in the morning, Lord, what is it that you want to say to your people from your word? It’s of course his word, right? We are praying the Bible.
-
And so, um, his word is the light and the lamp unto our feet and unto our path. And so, we come with great faith in him. We come with great boldness and confidence and assurance in him. And so, on this Friday, September 5th, today, this is what we do. And as I’ve prayed beforehand, Lord, what would you be saying to your people, you think about this for a moment? What do you want to say to your people? Lord, I’m just a middleman, so to speak.
-
What do you want to say to them? And that’s how I get these verses. And so I trust that for I hope many of you I hope all of us because it’s his word uh ministers to us all. That’s my prayer. So listen Psalm 119 verse 28. My soul melts from heaviness. Strengthen me according to your word. Once again, my soul melts from heaviness.
-
Strengthen me according to your word. You’ve got to be incredibly impressed. Especially those of you who are with us and you’re not you you’re not a Christian, at least not yet. You’re not a Christ follower. I want you to take a look at the honesty of the Bible. The psalmist writes, “My soul melts.” What does that mean? My soul is collapsing.
-
My soul is like water being poured out. Think about water being poured out on really porous rock or a sidewalk and the the water is just the water just goes away into the cracks. It just disappears by virtue of falling away. My soul is falling away. How come psalmist? Why? Because of heaviness. The word heaviness here is crushing my soul. My mind soul.
-
Soul is where we get the Greek word suk. Where we get the English word psyche or psychology, the study of the mind or the words or science of the mind is the word soul. My mind, my emotions, my thoughts, my processing is literally melting away between the cracks because of the crushing that is upon me.
-
The weight that is upon me, the psalmist is saying, the issues of life, the pressures of life, everything that life encompasses, it’s crushing me down into the soil. I’m like water poured out on the ground. And not only that, it’s like the ground is thirsty. And so it just consumes me. People feel like this. Listen, some of you may be so happy all the time.
