LIFT Daily Prayer: Day 138
-
looking forward to what God does today all day long on this glorious Sunday morning. Uh if you’ve been with us along the way, you know that um I just with you delight extra special on Sunday mornings because of the goodness of God. Yes, of course, always. But because it’s just the Lord’s day, it’s designated since the resurrection of Jesus as the Lord’s day.
-
On the first day of the week, the Bible says in the gospels that they came to the tomb and found it empty, and the first day of the week uh was a Sunday uh following the Shabbat or the Sabbath, Saturday. Saturday was the day of rest and in the Jewish culture, Sunday was the first day of the week. In a sense, for the gentile mind, Sunday um we would we would think that that Sunday’s the first or or the last day of the week because Monday would be the first day of the week. Not at all.
-
Uh nope. Uh God is so good and so precious that in our western world culture worshiping the Lord starting from the resurrection the first day of the week starts out worshiping God and that’s Sunday. Monday is the second day of the week. We always want to give God our first. So here it is. Psalm 119, the largest psalm in the Bible.
-
Psalm 119 verse 10. With my whole heart I with my whole heart I excuse me have sought you. Oh uh Lord let me not wander from your commandments. Once again with my whole heart I have sought you. That is the Lord. Oh let me not wander from your commandments. the goodness of God, the greatness of God.
-
This is our desire, is it not? As a believer, for you and I, is to not wander from the Lord. Listen, I’m going to I’m going to confess this for us. I’m going to be honest for us. You and I, as much as we would hate to admit it, you and I, our heart wanders from the Lord. It is hard to not only keep our heart focused on the Lord, but it’s hard for us to seek him.
-
I’m convinced that we can’t without his intervention in our lives. And so when we say with my whole heart I have sought you, it’s my personal theology. I believe that the Bible teaches I cannot seek him unless he first touches me. I cannot uh have any inclination or pull toward the Lord without the Lord initiating that. Now having said that it’s my human responsibility to obey.
-
But even in that do you not find yourself so weak in the pursuit of him? I do. I fight every day. I fight myself every day to pursue the Lord. I want to. I do. But it’s not easy. Am I describing your Christian walk as well? Is it victorious? Yeah. Is it thrilling? Absolutely. Um, does God do things in and through our lives that’s miraculous? Yes. Thank God.
-
Yes. And yet it’s difficult. We’re distracted. Our minds will wander. Other things will try to encroach upon our pursuit of God. It’s embarrassing. It’s sad. It’s sickening. But have you noticed, friend, that you don’t need anybody outside of yourself to make things difficult between you and God? You don’t need Satan.
