How To Win Your Spiritual Battle

Jonathan Cahn outlines a transformative approach to spiritual warfare based on Ephesians 6:10, urging believers to abandon defensive weakness and embrace the Almighty’s strength to live an offensive, victorious life. The core message is that strength in God is a choice, leading to the use of divine power and authority to achieve breakthroughs.

1. The Choice of Strength: Overcoming the Spirit of Weakness

Spiritual victory begins with a deliberate choice to be strong, challenging the prevailing narrative of weakness.

  • Strength is a Choice, Not a Feeling: You do not tell an Olympic champion to be strong; you tell someone who is not naturally strong to be strong, which is good news for believers dealing with temptation, sin, or weakness. You can become strong in God by simply choosing it.
  • The First Battle is Mental: The initial spiritual battle is won in your mind. Many believers think, “I can’t be strong; I’ve been in this sin or weakness my whole life”. The first step is to change your thinking according to the Word of God, believing: “I can live a strong life; I can turn down that temptation” because God says it.
  • The Enemy’s Strategy: The enemy’s goal is to keep you weak and prevent you from believing you can be strong. He weakens you with doubt, fear, anxiety, compromise, sin, and intimidation. He seeks to convince you that “evil is stronger than God” or that your problem is stronger than what God has in you. You must fight this thought because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.

2. Live by Divine Power and Might

Strength does not come from self-confidence, but from relying completely on God’s power. The command is “be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might”.

  • The Almighty’s Power: You must choose to live by the power of the Almighty, who has all might. Compared to this power, your problems, obstacles, sin, and evil do not have much power. You must resolve to walk, fight, and conquer by the power of the Almighty.
  • Power Follows Will and Heart: The power of God and the will of God always go together. Get your life into the will of God, because whatever is not in His will is draining you of His power. Seek the heart of God first—the same thing that moves God should move you. Seek the kingdom and the righteousness of God, and the power will come upon you to do what you need to do.
  • Vigor and Dominion: The power of His might (vigor) means living in the will of God provides spiritual vigor—a great, life-filled quality. The word also signifies dominion, meaning you are to take the authority God has over all things and use it for the will of God.

3. Use the Authority and Force of the King

God wants you to use His authority—His name, His badge, His “credit card”—to address your spiritual challenges.

  • Authority for His Calling: Use the authority of the King over your issues, problems, hindrances, temptations, and circumstances. This authority is not meant to get whatever you want, but to accomplish the will and calling of God. At the name of Messiah, every knee shall bow.
  • Divine Force for Breakthrough: The word translated as might in Ephesians 6:10 is is (Greek), which also means force. Some things—like walls or obstacles—will not come down without enough force. God is giving you His force to achieve a breakthrough momentum in your life, rolling away what you couldn’t roll away before.
