How to Become a True Friend of the Holy Spirit
-
He’s more real than the person sitting next to you. He’s not a wind. He’s not a dove. He’s not a power. He is a person. The dearest, the kindest, the most faithful friend you could ever know. Oh precious people, if only I could make you see. If only I could open your heart to understand what I’ve found, what I’ve experienced with the Holy Spirit.
-
He is not a mist, not a symbol, not just a doctrine. He is a person. He has feelings. He is a will. And more than anything, he longs to be your friend. [Music] Beloved, if you only knew what I’m about to tell you, if you could only grasp the depth of this simple truth, the Holy Spirit comes only where he is given everything.
-
Not some, not most, but everything. I know what it is to walk the stage with the presence of God resting like a holy blanket on the crowd. I’ve seen the blind see the death here the crippled rise not because of Katherine Kman but because the Holy Spirit was welcome. And I also know what it is to feel him grieved, withdrawn, silent because someone held back a corner of their heart.
-
You see, this is not about miracles. It’s not even about ministry. It’s about surrender. There is a price to be paid to walk with the Holy Spirit as a friend. He will not share your heart with anything or anyone else. He must have the throne, not a seat. He must reign, not be a guest. And so many want his power, but they do not want his lordship.
-
It was many years ago. I remember it like yesterday. I was just a girl full of dreams, full of desire, full of myself. I wanted to be used by God, but I also wanted Catherine’s name to be remembered. I didn’t know the danger of mixture. Then I didn’t understand that the spirit of God is holy. Or are you still holding on to that relationship, that ambition, that secret place in your heart where you say, “This is mine.
-
” There’s only one path to friendship with him. It’s the path of the cross, not the wooden one, but the personal one. The place where you die to self and rise in his spirit. And oh what joy comes after. What freedom, what fellowship. The Holy Spirit becomes more real to you than any person. You talk with him in the morning.
-
You feel his nearness at night. He becomes your comforter, your guide, your joy, your very breath. I would rather have the friendship of the Holy Spirit than be the most famous person in the world. I would rather live in a one- room house with his presence than in a palace without him. Because I know what it is to have him.
-
And I know what it is to lose him for just a moment. And I could not bear it. Precious child, today the Holy Spirit waits for you. Not for your perfection, not for your performance. He waits for your surrender. all of it. And when you give it, when you truly give it, he will come rushing in like a river.
