I want to talk to you tonight simple word about how to activate the anointing of the Holy Spirit in your life and in your ministry. Now when I use that phrase activate the anointing of the Holy Spirit, what I mean by that is surrendering to the flow of the Holy Spirit in your life.
There are no secrets to activating the anointing. Because everything is plainly laid out in scripture. When it comes to the anointing of the Holy Spirit, every believer has been anointed. 1 John 27 tells you that there is an anointing within you. The anointing is simply the power of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, we see what we would call a shadow. In fact, there are many shadows.
In the Old Testament, there was the shadow such as the tabernacle. The tabernacle was the shadow of the substance who is Christ. So, the Old Testament gives us shadows. The New Testament gives us substance. So when I’m talking to you about activating the anointing, I’m talking about the substance of the New Testament.
But we can learn a lot about this by looking at the shadow of the old. The Bible says in 1st Samuel chapter 16:3, “So as David stood there among his brothers, Samuel took the flask of olive oil he had brought and anointed David with the oil. And the spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David from that day on. Then Samuel returned to Rama. This word anoint means to smear or to rub.
And this Old Testament ceremony of taking that oil and smearing it on an individual was spiritually symbolic for taking the nature of God and smearing it on that person. When that oil was rubbed on their head or poured over the head, when that oil was used to anoint the different items in the tabernacle, it was symbolic for God placing his nature on it.
