Freedom From What’s Holding You Back | Steven Furtick
Discover the Christmas Scripture you’ve never heard—a story not of baby Jesus but of breakthrough Jesus. In Luke chapter 5, we encounter Jesus not in Bethlehem, where He was born, but in Capernaum, the center of His miraculous ministry. Here, we meet the Jesus who transforms lives and circumstances.
Luke 5 describes Jesus arriving in Capernaum, teaching and preaching. Imagine experiencing the living Word Himself sharing the Word—truly a powerful moment that attracted crowds so large, they filled every available space. Luke 5:17 emphasizes, “One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, coming from every village in Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. The power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick.”
Of course, power accompanies His presence; Jesus embodies God in human form—the Word made flesh dwelling among us. When God is present, everything becomes possible. Chains can break, joy can overflow, and miracles can happen instantly.
In verse 18, friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus but faced an obstacle—the crowd was too dense. Rather than turning away defeated, these determined friends climbed onto the roof, lifting their companion to find another way to Jesus. Their creative faith led them to remove roof tiles and lower their friend directly before Jesus.
