We’ll talk more about these a little bit later. So, this week a major story resurfaced, one that should break our hearts and awaken our spiritual spidey senses. There’s a girl named Khloe Cole. She grew up on the autism spectrum. She began identifying as a boy in her teenage years. Doctors fasttracked her into puberty blockers at 13 years old, gave her testosterone at 13 years old, and then a double mastctomy at 15 years old without addressing the underlying autism struggle.
And now that she’s older, she says that many of the kids that she knew in the transgender community also had neurodedevelopmental challenges. Research is now confirming that autism appears 16 times more in youth that are being referred for gender dysphoria. Let me say that again. In the transgender youth community, the autism rates are 16 times over represented from the general population. Think about it.
It’s like trying to repair a smoke detector while the house burns down. In other nations like the UK, like Sweden, and Finland, they are hitting the pause button and they’re saying, “Let’s evaluate psychological and neurological issues first.” But in the US, the model remains the same. Affirm their gender switch first, ask questions later.
Experts are now warning that these kids feel confused and overwhelmed because what’s actually troubling them goes much deeper than their bodies. Khloe Cole herself said, “My gender, my body was never the issue. See, she she now has insights into what was actually going on.” But it’s too late for so many of these kids. They’ve had lifealtering, bodying surgeries.
Jesus warned in Luke chapter 17 that harming vulnerable children is not a small offense. He said that it would be better for a millstone to be tied around your neck and you be cast into the sea than for you to harm one of these little ones. And Psalm 8 speaks of who we are, that we are made in the image of God.
