Busted Or Broken

I have a question for you. Would you rather be busted or broken? And you think that through for a moment? To be busted, that implies that we somehow maybe got caught. To be busted means were guilty. And true enough, that’s absolutely right. But what about the word broken? Nobody wants to be broken, right? But wait a minute.

In Christianity, it is absolutely essential that we flee from being busted. That is guilty. and caught red-handed, we would say, versus being broken. Being broken means that we come to the end of ourselves and we realize that the only answer that is really the right answer for us is none other than a relationship with Jesus Christ.

So, we all might know what it’s like to be maybe pushing the speed limit a little too much and getting over it to the point where uh we’ve exceeded that speed limit and that limit of grace and we think we’re getting away from it until you see uh red and blue lights in your rearview mirror and now you know you’re busted. And what do you respond to the officer? Do you defend yourself? Best not to do that. You’re busted.

But to be broken is to say to the ultimate authority, God, Lord, I need you. Well, friends, listen, grab your Bibles and we’re going to dive into this study that is going to make a difference clear to you and I whether we be busted or broken. Believe me, you’re going to want to be broken before the God who loves you. [Music] Are you broken or are you busted? And this is something that we deal with in life all the time.

By setting this up, everybody, I’m going to ask you to uh consider these verses. And by the way, it’s only in Christianity, as I mentioned a moment ago, that being broken is a good thing. In Matthew 21:44, Jesus says something that is quite shocking, and you don’t usually hear sermons preached on this. In Matthew 21:44, Jesus said, “Whoever falls on this stone will be broken, but whoever it falls, it will grind him to powder.
