Beyond Permission: Living Boldly in Your God-Given Authority

• Hey friend, welcome to the Life of Leadership podcast. I am so glad that you’re here. I love the community that we’re building together. I love it when you write to us and tell us how much this means to you. And it really means a lot to me that you’ve chosen to spend your time with us today.
• You know, I am fired up for this episode because we’ve got someone really, really special joining us. Rachel Hughes is on the line today. And Rachel and her husband Tim are the senior pastors of Gas Street Church in Birmingham. I got to tell you, I just love that name, Gast Street Church.
• And she has launched the Orchid, a powerful national ministry designed to empower women in every area of life. And I cannot wait to be with them both in Birmingham and London next year. Rachel’s become a good friend of mine. She is the UK leader for the Empower 21 Women’s Alliance that I’m heading up. And she has such a prophetic voice.
• She is such a gifted leader and powerful communicator, a true woman of God and certainly a voice that I am leaning into in these days. I cannot wait for you to hear from her. So, let’s dive in. Okay, my British friend, I am so grateful that you’ve joined me today. Oh, what a privilege. What a joy. I know.
• I want people to hear like our accents because they think that you have got like the posh British accent, but we refined it down under when you put us all on ships and sent us down there. This is what we This is how King Charles wishes he could speak English. Absolutely. I love that you’re still you’re still on that sending you off. Sorry about that. Yes. Yeah.
• How many like hundreds of years has that been? And mind you, I am Greek, so I’m not even part of that. I know. We were like, “Off you go to this really beautiful place. You terrible people.” Terrible people. We have this. Enjoy the beaches. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. You stay there. Okay. So, I um I am just so grateful you’ve joined me for for a number of reason.
• The first thing I want people to know is kind of a little bit about just who you are. And I obviously this is a life and leadership podcast. I want people to know like how you got to where you are because I want to know like were you a 5-year-old girl thinking I want to be an Anglican priest. That’s what I want to know. Yeah. And the very short answer to that is no. Surprise, surprise.
• I’m sure there are 5-year-old girls out there that dream of becoming an agree, but it wasn’t me. Um, no. Actually I I really wanted to be in the UK we would call it a TV presenter like a TV anchor or like a kid in kid shows. I really wanted to do that and and actually I did end up working in television. I I studied like TV and film um at university.
• Uh and then I worked for the BBC darling the BBC. Um so yes it is. So I worked I worked there for a number of years. Um and I I grew up in a Christian family. So my parents are wonderful, passionate Jesus followers. Neither of them were church pastors.
