Governing Authority
This article summarizes and expands upon the teaching by Pastor Tim Sheets, emphasizing that the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the resulting ability to pray in a “Spirit Language” are crucial keys for believers to function properly as Kingdom Heirs. This practice is presented as the most powerful way to align with heaven, exercise delegated authority, and achieve supernatural breakthroughs in the Earth realm.
The Restoration of the Governing Language
The importance of praying in the Spirit Language is rooted in the original design of man and the subsequent confusion at Babel.
The Original Mandate and Language
In the beginning, man was made in God’s image and likeness, given the mandate to have dominion, subdue the Earth, and reign.
- God-Breathed Language: In the beginning, the Godhead (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and the angels all spoke a Spirit Language. God taught this language—infused with the life essence of Jesus (the Word of God)—to Adam and Eve, who then taught it to their children.
- A Power and Governing Language: This original language was miraculous, filled with creative abilities, and infused with God’s kingdom authority or dominion. God confirmed that this language had the “unity of purpose,” “unity of power,” “authority,” and “creative abilities” to enable man to accomplish anything.
- The Babel Disruption: God chose to confuse man’s language at Babel to stop the worship of the occult and the resulting increase in demon bondage, as the unity of purpose provided by the Spirit Language would have made their plan possible. This confusion scattered natural man across the Earth.
The Pentecost Restoration
The restoration of the Spirit Language happened immediately in Acts Chapter 2 when Christ built His own Eklesia (Church)—His first ruling and reigning governing church on Earth.
- Supernatural Restoration: The first thing that happens to the born-again members, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power and presence, is the restoration of the Spirit Language. This confirms its major importance.
- The Command: Jesus explicitly told His disciples not to try to be a Kingdom Eklesia (His ruling and reigning church with the original dominion mandate restored) until they were filled with the Holy Spirit.
- Prophetic Fulfillment: This restoration fulfills the prophecy of Zephaniah 3:9, where God promises to restore a pure, undistorted, unpolluted language to His people. This language enables them to call upon the Lord, pray, and serve Him in humility and unity.
Praying in the Spirit: The Key to Governing Intercession
Praying in the Spirit is defined by the Holy Spirit Himself as “Governing Intercession”. It is a key to the Eklesia’s ability to rule and reign in Christ’s name on Earth, opening supernatural realms and expanding the Kingdom.
1. Activating Agreement with Heaven
The primary benefit of praying in the Spirit Language is that it ensures perfect agreement with God’s will.
- Unity of the Godhead: The Holy Spirit declared, “I always agree with myself”. When we pray in the Spirit, there is a unity of agreement with the Holy Spirit. This partnership becomes “do it on Earth activated”.
- Strategic Intercession: This supernatural agreement is strategic when praying for a region, a territory, or a nation, and it is crucial when praying against demonic thrones.
- Synergized Productivity: Praying in the Spirit provides unity of understanding and purpose. While two believers agreeing is powerful, this agreement is synergized when prayed in the Spirit Language. This enables the Eklesia to “shoulder the yoke” and push together supernaturally.
2. Unbinding Situations and Overthrowing Hell’s Plans
The ability to pray in the Spirit is directly connected to the authority granted in Matthew 16:18-19 to bind and loose. The keys of the Kingdom represent authority and dominion.
- The Unbinding Key: When things are “all bound up” and look impossible, praying in the Spirit is a key to unbind them with power and authority far beyond the natural realm. The Holy Spirit knows how to pray prayers that unbind things.
- Heaven-Earth Alignment: Jesus emphasized that whatever the Eklesia binds (declares improper and unlawful) on Earth must be what is already bound in Heaven, and whatever is loosed must be what is already loosed in Heaven. No one can pray with this kind of agreement better than the Holy Spirit.
- Overthrowing Evil: This supernatural agreement in the King’s Eklesia is overthrowing hell’s plans and implementing God’s plans, leading to the unfolding of a supernatural era. The Church is here to overcome evil and win.
3. Supernatural Guidance and Advantage
The Holy Spirit functions as the believer’s Divine Helper (Paraclete), providing a supernatural advantage over the kingdom of hell and the Earth realm.
- Knowing the Unknown: There is never a time when the Holy Spirit doesn’t know what is needed. He can give utterance or direction to bind or loose things that we know absolutely nothing about.
- Guidance and Insight: While praying in the Spirit, the Holy Spirit often begins to teach the believer about the situation, giving understanding, direction, and insight. This enables the believer to make effective faith decrees and confess relevant scriptures.
- Calling up Promises: The Holy Spirit calls up promises, scriptures, and patterns to the believer’s mind (remembrance), which surges their confidence and enables them to pray more effectively with understanding.
- Door Opening: The Eklesia has “complete and free access to God’s kingdom keys to open any and every door”. The Holy Spirit knows where the closed doors are and how to open them.
