Pastor Candy Christmas | Believe and Be Established | November 6, 2025

The central message for achieving spiritual breakthrough and confidence is rooted in the principle: “Believe and be established”. This means moving beyond merely knowing or reciting scripture to having total rest and confidence in your heart that no matter the outcome, God is working everything for your good and in your favor.

Defining True Belief and Establishment

True belief goes beyond intellectual understanding; it originates from the heart. When this heart belief is active, it leads to establishment, which provides stability and security even in the midst of battles.

The Meaning of Establishment (Amen)

The Hebrew root word for “established” is ammon, from which the word “amen” is derived.

  • Amen means “so be it” or “it is so”.
  • To be established means to be firm, steady, secure, supported, or upheld.
  • God wants to “stamp an amen” on you, making you secure and unshakable.

If you truly trust and rely on God, He will cause you to stand firm and stable.

Faith: Agreement with Heaven’s Decree

Faith is simply agreeing with what heaven has already decreed. The verdict of victory has already been decided in your life. This judgment includes the promises that God will supply all your needs according to His riches and glory, that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, and that by His stripes you are already healed. In all these things, you are “more than conquerors”.

The Adversary’s Tactic: The Caveat of Doubt

The enemy’s primary tactic is to derail your faith by planting a “caveat” in your battles.

The caveat suggests: “He worked last time because of this, but this battle is so big, so monstrous”. The enemy puts this doubt in place to derail your faith and sideline you out of the fight.

This internal conflict is often a war between the mind (thought life) and the heart (spirit life). Your mind may focus on current circumstances—like a lack of money or persistent symptoms—while your heart holds onto the truth of God’s Word. Real belief is not the absence of doubt, but dependence in the midst of it.

Jehoshaphat: A Model for Victory Through Belief

The story of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles chapter 20 serves as a powerful guide for winning spiritual battles.

Fear, Fasting, and Divine Instruction

When news arrived that three massive armies were assembling to attack Israel, Jehoshaphat, though a human being, feared. He gathered all of Israel, and they went to the temple to fast and cry out to God. Even though they knew the history of God’s faithfulness (like parting the Red Sea), they questioned if God would act for them in this “grandfather of all storms”.

The prophet delivered God’s instruction:

  • “Be not afraid or dismayed by reason of this great multitude,” for the battle is “not yours but it is God’s”.
  • “You shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you”.

The Command to Believe and Prosper

The next morning, Jehoshaphat stood and commanded the people: “Hear me, O Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the Lord your God, so shall you be established; believe his prophets, and so you shall prosper”. This command rings out to the church today: stand in the face of the roaring lion and believe the Lord.

Jehoshaphat understood that faith always leads the way. He sent praisers before the warriors. Praise is the sound of belief, contrasting with complaining, murmuring, or worry.

Activating Faith: Heart Involvement and Honesty

Faith is activated when the Word of God is mixed with belief.

Moving Beyond Head Knowledge

It is not enough to simply quote scripture or memorize it (head knowledge); your heart must get involved. The Word of God is seed, and faith is the soil. Unbelief sterilizes the seed, but faith multiplies it. Speaking the Word without believing is like “aiming an unloaded weapon”.

Some believers, in their trials, may start “rattling off scripture” to God, but this is coming “off the top of [the] head”. True prayer requires backing up, getting the heart involved, and being conscious of the words spoken with faith.
