Understanding Your Jesus Identity

Understanding and operating from your True Identity—or Jesus Identity—is the foundational concept for genuine Christian living and spiritual empowerment. This realization shifts the believer from striving to earn God’s acceptance to living in agreement with who they already are in Christ. This movement involves transitioning from mere articulation to practical application of biblical truths.

The core message of grace and identity is powerful and life-changing, freeing hearts and renewing minds all over the world.

The Foundation of True Identity: Settled Status in Christ

Your identity in Christ is a settled reality—it is already finished and complete because of Jesus’s work.

Defining Completed Status

When a believer receives Jesus Christ, they receive a settled, complete status, meaning they are:

  • Already Righteous: You are righteous because of Jesus.
  • Already Holy: You are holy because of Jesus.
  • Already Complete in Him: You are complete in Him, meaning you mirror wholeness and endorse your true identity.

This completeness means you are no longer trying to become something but are living from what is already true about you. You are not performing to try to achieve or be righteous; you are righteous because of Jesus.

Sin as Misalignment

Sin is redefined not merely as bad behavior, but as being out of sync with your true identity. When you are out of sync, you miss out on your status as a son (“sunship”). Jesus’s finished work makes you righteous, holy, and complete, requiring no striving.

Living in Sync: The Practical Flow of Identity

Being in sync with your Jesus Identity means that your thoughts, emotions, and actions start flowing out of the truth that you are already righteous, holy, and complete.

Aligning Thoughts and Responses

This synchronicity changes how you respond to life’s challenges.

  • Respond from the New You: When challenges arise, like fear or temptation, you must respond from your current reality, not your old habits. For instance, if fear shows up, you declare, “Wait a minute. That’s not me. That’s the old me. I don’t fear no more”. The new you walks in power and love.
  • Stop Striving, Start Believing: To be in sync means you stop striving to become and you start believing you already are. You speak, live, and release your authority from this identity.

Boldness and Authority

When you realize that as He is, so are we in this world, a level of confidence and boldness rises within you.

  • Confidence Over Fear: This identity grants boldness, liberty, confidence, and assurance. When facing life’s challenges, you approach them with confidence instead of fear.
  • Quiet Authority: Because you are in union with Christ and complete in Him, you possess a confidence that allows you to calmly exercise authority, such as saying, “sickness move,” without striving to get God to act.
  • Rejecting Comparison: You must not compare yourself among others, as this is spiritually harmful. You trust that your assignment does not need to be compared to someone else’s.

Benefits of Living in Your Jesus Identity

Living from your true identity provides profound benefits that transform your daily life and spiritual walk.

1. Living from Rest, Not Striving

One of the huge benefits of being in sync with your true identity is moving from a place of striving to a place of rest.

  • Highest Faith: Rest is considered the highest kind of faith; you are not striving, but you believe it, receive it, and find rest in it.
  • Celebrating Identity: Rest can be described as celebration. Instead of working to be righteous, you celebrate and praise God for the righteousness you have received.
  • No Dependency on Performance: This rest is a place of confidence in the finished works of Jesus Christ, meaning you are not dependent on your performance and effort to make things happen.
  • Relationship Over Performance: Life stops feeling like a performance and starts feeling like a relationship.

2. Peace and Assurance

Knowing your righteousness because of Jesus Christ produces peace.

  • Works of Righteousness: The works of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness will be quietness and assurance forever.
  • Peace as Default: When you know you are righteous because of Jesus, peace becomes your default, rather than anxiety.

3. Freedom from Approval and Fear

When you are in sync with your identity, you stop fighting for approval, love, or worth, because you already know you have it.

  • God’s Gift: God’s love, favor, and blessing were never meant to be earned; they are gifts He has already given.
  • Let Go of Guilt and Fear: It is time to let go of guilt, release the fear, and root your faith in truth, not effort. You are already loved, accepted, and free because of grace.

4. Sweatless Victory

This confidence produces sweatless victory. You do not have to “sweat like sinners” to try to get something; you operate knowing you already have it.
