The Anatomy of Awe: A Message of Mercy and Grace
Sit down, take a seat, and listen closely. I understand—some of you were expecting Pastor John, and I would have been disappointed too. I love hearing him preach. But Scripture reminds us that God can use donkeys and even rocks to fulfill His purpose. So, we trust that He will move this morning.
The first time Debbie graciously invited me to be part of DFL—about ten years ago, right, Deb?—I thought she had mistaken my last name. I had already seen the incredible impact of DFL around the world and had known about James River for years. I honestly thought she had meant to invite Lisa Bevere, not Lisa Harper. Now, Lisa Bevere is extraordinary. Has she been to DFL, Deb? That woman can preach the cover right off a Bible! She and her husband are phenomenal. But Lisa often preaches in leather pants, and let me tell you—I had a moment of panic. If Debbie had mixed us up, and I had to wear leather pants, it would sound like a flock of ducks being taken down in this place! That wouldn’t bless anyone.
So, the fact that I was invited once, let alone multiple times, is an undeserved privilege. Every time I come here, I see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living—right here in Missouri. If Missouri were just a little closer to Tennessee, where I live, I’d be here every week. I truly love this house. Pastor John has taught me so much. I’ve made mistakes here, and I’ve found mercy here. It is a gift to be among you today.
