Pastor Kent Christmas | Learning How To Rest In God
-
You’re watching KCMI TV. Well, I want to talk to you today about a a principle that um God intends for us to occupy, but it’s difficult for us as human beings sometimes to do it. And I want to talk to you about rest. learning how to rest in God. And the when Christians step out of that rest, this is why Christians get burnt out and they get discouraged and they get weary um worn out is because they’re not in the rest of the Lord.
-
So, I wanted to just take you on a little journey through the scriptures that uh will help you see this principle in the word of the Lord. And maybe after this morning’s podcast, it’ll give you some direction in your life. But, uh, when the Bible starts out in the book of Genesis, um, it says in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
-
And so, um, of course, we know God is one God, but he’s God is comprised of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. And so uh in creation uh I believe it’s the father that designed it. But then the next part that you read it says that the spirit the holy spirit of god then moved and after the holy spirit moved it says then god spoke or the word spoke.
-
So you have the father, you have the holy spirit and you have the word of god who later on in the new testament is manifested in the flesh and we know him as Jesus. But when there was a principle here the word could not speak until the holy spirit first moved and the holy spirit did not move until the father designed the earth.
-
And so when God finished with creation, it says in Genesis 2, I believe it’s chapter 2, it says that God rested from his own works. And you got to remember now in in this creation, man is included in this on the sixth day. So not only does God rest but man is at rest, the earth is at rest. The entire uh design of God is that everything will be at rest.
-
And so when God creates because there’s no sin, there’s no devil, there are no demons loose or there’s that there is Satan, but he is not, he has no power, no authority. He can’t touch man. So none of these elements are at work. And this is why God could rest because there was nothing to fight. This is why man could rest.
-
There was nothing to encounter. there were no spirits that could that could create any chaos in his life. And so when we read this this account of creation, you have the Holy Ghost and the Jesus or the word and the father involved in this, but they all come to one goal and that’s to bring everything into rest.
-
And even man is at rest. So now we know that when sin enter enters in and Adam and Eve eat of the forbidden fruit everything changes. Man has to go to work. God says by the sweat of thy brow. And uh there is there is no rest for man. And so because God created man to rest. You now jump forward 4,000 years and we find that remember now it’s the word that has spoke everything into existence.
