Pastor Jasmine Brady | Bible Reading Podcast Episode #102

  • Hey, holy readers. Welcome to week 50 of 2025. This is so exciting. It is a mad dash to the end. And I hate to cover so much content in one 10-minute episode, but it’s important that we just recap uh what we’re reading and what we’re going through. Now, we’ve already read through the New Testament one time this year, and this is time number two.
  • But faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word. And so, you just continue to put the word in you. Um, line upon line, precept upon precept that you read it and you reread it. And that’s what makes it come alive in our spirits. So, this week we are going to talk about the reading from December the 8th to December the 14th.
  • This is all of 1 Timothy chapters 1-6. Then [snorts] we’ve got Titus 1-3, the whole book. We’ve got all of 2 Timothy chapters 1-4. Then we’ve got Phileiman, it’s just one chapter. And uh Jude, one chapter, and then Hebrews chapters 1-13, the whole thing. So that’s a lot of material to cover today, but if you’ll buckle your seat belt, I think that we’ll make it through it.
  • So uh 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus are known as the pastoral letters or the pastoral epistles and they are written by Paul. And what makes them pastoral is they’re written to pastors. They’re not written to whole churches, whole congregations like Colossians or Ephesians or Galatians. This is just written to individual church leaders, church pastors.
  • So you’ve got Timothy who is in Ephesus and then Titus who is in Cree and uh Paul is writing to them and he’s writing about church leadership and organization and these are some of the things that he’s talking about um qualifications for for elders and deacons how to correct false teaching how to structure worship and community life and then how Christian leaders should behave.
  • So these letters here they are emphasizing faithful teaching and godly living. As Paul writes, he writes a lot about just protecting the gospel, guarding the gospel, uh discipling others in the gospel. So you can see that it really revolves around leadership and disciplehip. So first Timothy, this is about order in God’s house.
  • How should the house of God be run? And he he says um the church is the pillar and the foundation of truth. That’s chapter 3:1 15. And so he talks to Timothy about church leadership, sound doctrine, public worship, and godliness. Now, second Timothy is beautiful because this is one of Paul’s very last letters, if not his last. Paul is in prison and he’s writing to Timothy.
  • And as you read this, you can feel the urgency and the importance of what Paul is saying. And one of the things that he says, he says, “Preach the word.” Think about this. Paul’s in prison and he’s trying to impart these this this these last bits of wisdom to his son in the Lord. And what he winds up with is preach the word. And that’s what I want to tell you today, friend.
