7 Prayers You Need to Start Praying Over Your Family Right Now

In this wicked generation, the enemy actively seeks to influence and harm your loved ones—your children, spouse, parents, siblings, and close friends. As a believer, your prayers serve as a powerful defense, capable of setting divine appointments and causing necessary disconnections. By praying in alignment with God’s Word, you can be confident that your prayers are backed by God’s mighty power.

The sources outline seven essential prayers rooted in Scripture that you can begin praying immediately over your family and loved ones.

1. Pray for Divine Appointments and Against Ungodly Influence

Ungodly influence—coming from secular media, social platforms, demonic attacks, and even unknowingly from close relations—can negatively affect your loved ones. Your prayers can cause them to make a right turn instead of a left, keeping them out of harm’s way and removing them from a path of destruction.

  • The Goal: Pray that God would weaken the influence of the ungodly and strengthen the influence of the godly.
  • Scriptural Foundation: Those who avoid the advice of the wicked and delight in the law of the Lord are like trees planted by rivers, bearing fruit, never withering, and prospering in all they do. Removing ungodly influence allows for a free flow in the spirit and a focus on God’s Word and ways.
  • The Action: Pray for divine disconnections from people who would cause compromise, temptation, foolishness, harm, and destruction. Ask God to surround them with people who love the Word, worship, and Jesus.

2. Pray for Protection from Harm and Sickness

We live in a dangerous world filled with calamity, natural disasters, and violent people. Instead of living in anxiety or constantly worrying about the worst-case scenario, which achieves nothing, you should release them to the Lord and pray for them in faith.

  • The Goal: Pray against random accidents, violence, calamity, and all forms of sickness and disease.
  • Scriptural Foundation: Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest; God is their refuge and safety. If they make the Lord their shelter, no evil will conquer them, and no plague will come near their home.
  • The Action: Pray with faith, not just logic, and rebuke every sickness and disease. Cancel every plan of Satan concerning your loved ones. Entrust them to the Lord, trusting that He loves them more than you do and delights in every detail of their lives. Ask God to send His angels to clear their path.

3. Pray for Strength Under Temptation

The world is filled with temptation, and demons act as “salespeople,” enticing and encouraging people to fall into compromise. The devil’s strategy is twisted: he downplays the consequences and sells the pleasure of sin, only to blow the sin out of proportion to condemn the believer immediately after they commit it.

  • The Goal: Pray that your loved ones, especially children who face a perverse and corrupt world online and in school, would be strengthened against temptation and have sober minds.
  • Scriptural Foundation: Jesus prayed for Simon Peter that his faith should not fail during sifting by Satan. We are instructed to pray, “don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one”.
  • The Action: Pray that they would capture a glimpse of God’s holiness to inspire them to be holy. Ask God to give them the wisdom to flee temptation and to make them lovers of His presence so they might be satisfied, wanting for nothing.

4. Pray for a Hunger for the Word of God

A hunger for God’s Word is the foundation for the believer and a sign of spiritual health and vitality.

  • The Goal: Pray that this hunger would be supernaturally inspired and cultivated in their hearts, leading to obsession with Scripture.
  • Scriptural Foundation: Like newborn babies, believers must crave spiritual milk to grow into a full experience of salvation. God’s words and commands are more desirable than the finest gold and sweeter than honey.
  • The Action: Pray that the Holy Spirit would cause them to reach first for the Word when they wake up, prioritizing it and building their lives around receiving, studying, speaking, and obeying it.

5. Pray for Revelation of Their Identity in Christ

A lack of understanding concerning identity in Christ often leads believers to compromise, sin, or adopt a “lowly” demeanor. Many torture themselves mentally and emotionally with self-hatred, mistakenly believing that being nothing or worthless is humility.

  • The Goal: Pray that their hearts would be flooded with light to understand the confident hope they have as God’s holy people and His rich inheritance.
  • Scriptural Foundation: Believers are the righteousness of God in Christ, complete in Him, a new creation, forgiven, and seated in heavenly places.
  • The Action: Pray against legalism, the religious mindset, and the burdens of man. Ask the Holy Spirit to convince them confidently that they belong to God. Teach them to see themselves through the cross and embrace their newness of life, setting them free from false humility and past identity.

6. Pray for Divine Wisdom

Wisdom is crucial, especially when loved ones face life-altering decisions where there is no clear right or wrong path (e.g., starting a business, getting married, or beginning school).

  • The Goal: Pray that they would access divine reasoning to see people and situations the way God sees them, leading to fruitful, godly, and positive results.
  • Scriptural Foundation: It is possible to pray that God would give others spiritual wisdom and insight so they may grow in the knowledge of God.
  • The Action: Pray that God would guide them, speak to them, and cause them to weigh their options according to biblical truth. Give them the courage and faith to take the necessary bold steps.

7. Pray for Passion for God’s Presence

The presence of God is the fundamental difference that sets God’s people apart from all others on Earth. It is never too late, or too early, for a loved one to have a powerful encounter with God.

  • The Goal: Pray that they would have the attitude of Moses: “If you don’t personally go with us, don’t make us leave this place”. The presence must be the priority.
  • Scriptural Foundation: The Lord promises, “I will go personally with you… and I will give you rest”.
  • The Action: Pray that they would encounter God in dreams, visions, and moments of worship, confusion, fear, and sorrow. Ask that God’s presence would rest tangibly on them, their homes, their cars, and everywhere they go, drawing them to higher heights and deeper depths.

Supporting the Kingdom Work

The sources stress the biblical principle that those who receive spiritual benefit from a ministry should support those who preach the good news. This financial support is right and orderly, enabling the ministry to expand globally, host events, and plant churches. Supporting the ministry is seen as a way to honor the word received, ensuring that the work of spreading the gospel continues. Believers are encouraged to sow with a joyful heart and become monthly partners.
